Severe Weather and College Operating States

Weather or other emergency conditions may affect how McLennan Community College operates.

College Procedure CH-III, College, College Campus States of Operations, establishes three operating states:

  • Normal Operations
  • Remote Operations
  • Closed Operations

Closed Operations may apply as either Campus Closed or College Closed.

Normal Operations

Unless otherwise announced, the College operates normally.

Employees remain responsible for making reasonable personal decisions concerning travel conditions they believe to be unsafe.

Remote Operations

During Remote Operations, College offices and services remain available virtually. Employees who can work remotely are expected to do so, while employees assigned to required service operations may be instructed to report to campus.

ISS employees should therefore be prepared in advance to work remotely when conditions indicate that the College's operating state may change.

Campus Closed

A particular MCC location may be closed while the remainder of the College continues operating.

Employees assigned to the affected location who can work remotely generally continue working remotely unless otherwise instructed. Required employees may be instructed to report according to College needs.

College Closed

College Closed is reserved for extreme events.

When the College is closed:

  • Classes are canceled, including online classes.
  • Offices and facilities are closed.
  • College events are canceled.
  • Employees generally are not expected to work, except specifically selected employees performing required-service functions.

Employees should follow the operating state communicated by the College rather than assuming that a weather closure automatically means remote work.

The College's Weather Events at MCC page is the authoritative resource for current weather-related communications and information about delays, closures, and weather decisions.
