Emergency Preparedness and Employee Responsibilities
Emergency preparedness is the responsibility of every McLennan Community College employee.
The College Emergency Response Plan states that the success of emergency planning depends on employees and students responding promptly and effectively. Faculty and staff are expected to review emergency information at least annually.
ISS employees should be familiar with the College's Emergency/Risk Management resources and know:
- How to contact Campus Police. Add the phone numbers to your cell phone so you can quickly call.
- How emergency notifications are received.
- Where to evacuate or shelter in their normal work locations.
- How to respond to evacuation, shelter-in-place, lockdown, and severe-weather instructions.
- How to locate emergency instructions when an unfamiliar situation occurs.
The College Emergency Management site should be treated as the primary source for detailed safety instructions for specific emergencies. It includes guidance for active shooters, chemical incidents, fire, lockdowns, medical emergencies, natural disasters, potential threats, severe weather, and other situations.
Safety Comes First
During an emergency, personal safety takes priority over normal ISS responsibilities.
Employees should follow instructions from Campus Police, Emergency/Risk Management, MCC CERT members, and other authorized emergency personnel.
Employees should not delay evacuation, sheltering, or other protective action in order to protect equipment, complete work, troubleshoot a system, or notify a supervisor.
Once employees are safe and circumstances permit, ISS employees should communicate their status to their supervisor or CITO and follow any additional department instructions.
