LockDown Browser Not Opening or Out of Date

Overview

This article includes guidance for resolving issues related to the LockDown Browser not opening or is not on the latest version.

Getting Started

Reinstall LockDown Browser

Reinstalling the Lockdown Browser can confirm you are using the updated version and may fix other issues with the Lockdown Browser.

  • Uninstall the LockDown Browser.
  • Clear your default web browser's cache, temp files for All Time.
    • Please be advised before proceeding that clearing your browser's cookies and cache will sign you out of websites and will erase any unsaved data. You may delete your browsing history, but this is not required.
    • Instructions to clear your data can be found at Clear Cookies and Cache.
  • Reinstall the LockDown Browser from the link in Brightspace. This will install the latest version on your computer.

Disable Pop-up Blocker

If the LockDown Browser continues to not launch, you may need to disable your default web browser's pop-up blocker.

  • Select the three dots (top, right side of the screen) and select settings.
  • Select Security and Privacy.
  • Select Site Settings.
  • Select Pop-ups and redirects.
  • Under 'Default behavior' allow sites to send pop-ups and redirects.
  • After your quiz is complete, it is recommended to disable pop-ups and redirects.

Webcam Issues

If your quiz or exam requires a webcam and only shows a black image, please check if your security camera cover is covering the webcam. Most laptops allow you to slide the cover open.

Try on Another Device

If you are unable to get the lockdown browser working using the above information, we recommend trying to use another computer.

On Campus Lockdown Browser Computers

If you are unable to get the Lockdown Browser working, computers in the Library (on MCC Campus) may be used as they have the Lockdown Browser installed. You may also schedule your exam with the Testing Center at https://www.mclennan.edu/testing-center/Schedule.html.
