Smart Classroom Instructions

Overview

This guide shows how to use the technology in a smart classroom at McLennan Community College. It tells you how to turn on and off the room equipment, choose which input (computer, laptop, HDMI, etc.) to display, use the document camera, and control volume and video. It gives clear steps so all instructors and students can easily use the classroom tech.

Getting Started

Here are instructions for using the classroom’s audio‑visual system and document camera.

Using the Extron Button Panel (Power, Input & Display)

This describes how to power on/off the system and select what to display.

  1. Turn On
    • Press the ON button on the Extron panel.
    • Wait about 20 seconds until the unit beeps 3 times before pressing any other button.
  2. Choose Input:
    • Press PC to use the built-in classroom computer (default).
    • Press HDMI to use a device connected via HDMI.
    • Press LAPTOP to use a device connected via Mini‑DisplayPort.
    • Press VGA to use the wireless presenter.
  3. Adjust Sound
    • Use the VOLUME UP/VOLUME DOWN buttons to adjust the sound - hold down to adjust the volume faster.
    • Use the MUTE button to mute audio.
  4. Freeze the Projector Image:
    • Press AUX VIDEO once.
    • Press again to unfreeze.
  5. Mute the Projector Video:
    • To mute the projector video (while keeping audio), press and hold AUX VIDEO for 3 seconds.
    • To restore the video, press and hold AUX VIDEO for 3 seconds again.
  6. Turn Off:
    • Press OFF.
    • Wait about 10 seconds after the unit beeps 3 times for the system to fully shut down.

Using the Document Camera and Microscope / Image Tools

This describes how to use the document camera for projecting documents or live images.

  1. Use the Document Camera:
    • On the desktop, open Flex 11 software. or
    • In Zoom or Yuja, select Solo to use the classroom camera and microphone.
  2. Use the Camera Control Buttons:
    • Press AF to autofocus.
    • Press AF‑L to autofocus and lock focus.
    • Press ROTATE to rotate the camera image (useful switching between document and lecture capture mode).
    • Press ZOOM to zoom in/out.
  3. IMPORTANT: Log Off When Finished: 
    • If you do not log off, other users may be blocked from opening the Document Camera software.
    • Receive message, the Document Camera is in Use by Someone Else:
      • Restart the computer.
      • If you receive warning, the other users may lose unsaved work - select “Restart Anyway.”
      • This releases the camera for use.
