Lockdown Browser Webcam Not Working or Black Camera Screen
Overview
If your quiz or exam requires a webcam and you see a black camera screen, the webcam may be blocked by the privacy cover on your laptop.
Getting Started
Check the webcam privacy cover before troubleshooting other camera settings.
Check the Webcam Cover
- Look at the top of your laptop screen where the webcam is located.
- Check for a small sliding cover over the webcam.
- If the cover is closed, slide it open to uncover the webcam.
- Return to your quiz or exam and check if the camera image is now visible.

- The webcam privacy cover may look like a small slider or switch next to the camera.
- If the webcam is still not working after opening the cover, additional troubleshooting may be required.
