Email Not Working: Emails Not Sending, Receiving, or Being Delivered

Overview

This article covers issues where students are not receiving email, not able to send emails from their student email account, or Instructors or other users or not getting email sent to them. This can happen when signed into email on a web browser, outlook, or on a mobile device mail app.

Getting Started

Confirm Correct Email Account

Confirm the account type is not trying to connect to a Gmail account. Being signed into the Gmail account even if you are using outlook will not allow you to receive or send emails.

  • Open Account Settings in your email app or Outlook.
      • Check the account type.
      • If the account is listed as Gmail or Google instead of Microsoft 365, remove the account from the app.
      • After removing it, add your student email account again and make sure it is set up as a Microsoft 365 account.

Refresh the Account Connection

Sign out of your Microsoft 365, full close your browser or remove the account from the Outlook app, and then sign back into Microsoft Outlook 365 using your MCC email and current password.

Test Email in an InPrivate or Incognito Browser

Test an InPrivate or Incognito browser to check if you are receiving new emails on a web browser. If an InPrivate or Incognito browser allows you to view new emails, you will need to clear your cookies and cache from your normal browser and sign back into your email. For instructions to clear your cookies and cache, visit: Clear Cookies and Cache. Instructions to test your email in an InPrivate or Incognito browser are in the Test Email in an InPrivate or Incognito Browser section of this article.

Test Email in an InPrivate or Incognito Browser.
  • Open an InPrivate or Incognito Tab.
  • Go your email at Outlook Web Access.
    • If you are able to log in, please close the InPrivate or Incognito browser and then clear your cookies and cache from your main browser. For instructions, visit: Clear Cookies and Cache. Try to log into your email again.
    • If you are still unable to login, close any previous login windows and then please reset your password following all instructions at Manage Your Password (Create, Reset, or Change). Once your MCC password has been reset, wait 5 minutes to allow the new password to sync to Microsoft before retrying.
