Exporting Your Data from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive

Overview

Student accounts are automatically disabled 365 days after a student last attends class. Once disabled, access to files in Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive will be removed. This article shows how to download your files ahead of time so you do not lose important data.

Getting Started

This section shows how to download your files from each system. Follow the steps for Google Drive and then Microsoft OneDrive.

Download from Google Drive

You can select individual files or download everything at once from Google Drive.

  1. Go to https://drive.google.com and log in with your student email.
  2. Click inside your file list and press Ctrl + A (or Command + A on Mac) to select all files.
  3. Right-click on any selected file and choose Download.
  4. Google will create a zip file and start the download automatically.
  5. After it finishes, open the zip file to access your content.

Download from Microsoft OneDrive

You can also download your files stored in Microsoft OneDrive by following these steps.

  1. Go to https://onedrive.live.com and sign in with your student email.
  2. Select the folders or files you want to save.
  3. Click Download from the top menu. OneDrive will create a zip file and start the download.
  4. After the download completes, unzip the file to access your content.

Additional Details

  • Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides will be converted to Microsoft formats like Word or Excel when downloaded.
  • Make sure you have enough space on your computer before downloading large files.
  • Start early. Exporting the entire contents of your drives could take several days, do not wait until the day your account is disabled.
