Status & Available Hours Microsoft Teams

Overview

Microsoft Teams allows users to set up a status and configure available work hours to help others know when they are online, busy, away, or unavailable. Keeping your status and schedule updated improves communication and helps coworkers know the best time to contact you.

Getting Started

Your Microsoft Teams status may update automatically based on Outlook calendar meetings, availability, or computer inactivity. Follow the steps below to (manually) update your status and configure your working hours.

Change Your Status in Teams

Set your current availability so others can see whether you are available to chat or meet.

  1. Open the Microsoft Teams application or visit Microsoft Teams.
  2. Select your profile picture in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select your status below for your account name.
  4. Choose one of the available status options:
    • Available
    • Busy
    • Do Not Disturb
    • Be Right Back
    • Away
    • Offline
  5. Select the desired status to apply it.

Set a Status Duration

Configure how long your selected status should remain active.

  1. Select your profile picture in Teams.
  2. Select your status.
  3. Select Duration.
  4. Choose the status you want to display.
  5. Select how long the status should remain active.
  6. Select Done to save the change.

Set Available Work Hours

Configure your work schedule in Outlook so Teams can display your availability more accurately.

  1. Open Outlook on the Web.
  2. Select the Settings icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Calendar, then choose Work hours and location.
  4. Set your working days and available hours.
  5. Select Save to apply the changes.

Additional Details

  • Do Not Disturb silence most notifications while active.
  • Working hours configured in Outlook can appear in Teams scheduling features.
  • Status settings help improve scheduling and reduce communication delays.
