Record Teams Meeting & Edit Captions
Overview
This article explains how to record a Microsoft Teams meeting and create a transcript, so you can review and edit captions later. Captions cannot be edited directly in Teams, but the transcript file can be downloaded and updated for your own use.
Getting Started
Follow these steps to record a meeting, generate a transcript, and edit the captions.
Record Meeting & Enable Transcript
Start recording and transcription during your Teams meeting to capture captions.
- Join or start a meeting in Microsoft Teams
- Select the “More actions” (three dots) in the meeting toolbar.
- Choose “Start recording.”
- Select “Start transcription” to begin capturing captions.
- Allow the meeting to continue while Teams records and transcribes audio.
Download & Edit Transcript
Access the transcript after the meeting and edit it using a document editor.
- After the meeting ends, open Microsoft Teams and go to the Calendar.
- Select the meeting, then open the meeting chat or recap.
- Locate the transcript and select the download option.
- Open the file using Microsoft Word or another text editor.
- Edit the captions as needed and save your updated version.
Additional Details
- Recording and transcription may require organizer permissions.
- Captions are generated automatically and may not be fully accurate.
- The edited transcript does not replace the original Teams recording or captions.
