Use the steps below to protect your devices and college information while working from home, traveling, or using public networks.
Secure Your Devices Before You Travel
Preparing your equipment ahead of time helps reduce security risks while you are away from campus.
- Ensure your operating system and software are fully updated with the latest security patches.
- Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) for MCC accounts and use strong, unique passwords.
- Back up important files to an approved MCC storage location before departing.
Stay Secure While Working Remotely
These actions help protect sensitive information when working outside of campus facilities.
- Avoid using public Wi-Fi for accessing sensitive systems unless connected through a secure VPN (Virtual Private Network).
- Do not leave devices unattended in public places such as airports, hotels, or coffee shops.
- Lock your screen when stepping away and log out of applications when finished.
Additional Details
- Be cautious of shoulder surfing when entering passwords in public areas.
